Vessel Recovery – Temeraire Salvage, Albany WA
Project Overview
Indianic Group was engaged to recover the historic vessel Temeraire, a 1931 wooden powerboat that had submerged in its pen at Emu Point, Albany, Western Australia.
The vessel, a 94-year-old kauri carvel-planked ferry, is one of the original Rottnest Island ferries and holds not only significant heritage value, but also sentimental value for many people in Western Australia. The owner had been in the process of restoring the vessel before it was discovered to have sunk in its pen in October 2025.

The Challenge
The recovery presented several complexities due to the vessel’s age, fragile timber construction, and heritage significance. The kauri planking required careful handling to avoid further structural damage during lifting operations. Additionally, the vessel’s submerged condition in a confined pen environment limited access and required precision planning to safely execute the recovery. Environmental considerations and minimising disturbance within the marina were also key priorities.
The Solution
Indianic mobilised immediately from Henderson to Albany with salvage equipment capable of safely recovering the vessel. The salvage team implemented a controlled and methodical recovery plan, including careful rigging, load distribution, and lift sequencing to protect the integrity of the hull. Throughout the operation, a strong emphasis was placed on minimising additional damage and ensuring a safe and efficient recovery process.

The successful recovery of Temeraire was achieved without further damage to the vessel, preserving its structural integrity and historical value.
