Navigation Aid Maintenance
Project Overview
Indianic Group is engaged under Fremantle Ports and Pilbara Ports for the inspection and maintenance of navigation aids – critical infrastructure for supporting shipping movements in navigable waters.
Indianic provides routine inspections of these assets, and provides maintenance to assure the functionality, serviceability, and compliance to IALA standards.

- Offsite refurbishments – blast and painting of structures, re-engineering.
- Exchange programs for recycling navigation aids on a rotational basis.
- Emergency callouts for electrical and structural repair.
The Challenge
There are primarily 3 categories of navigation aid that Indianic maintain.
- Sea-based floating navigation aid
- Sea-based piled navigation aids
- Land based navigation aid
These navigation aids are all positioned throughout the ports and Indianic has to be very flexible with teams, vessels, and support equipment to manage all facets of the vastly differing types of navigation aids.
This necessitates having multiple vessels with different capabilities available at short notice to support the demands of maintaining and repairing the assets in challenging locations.
The different types of navigation aids mean the key personnel require a multitude of high-risk licenses to support the operations – whether they are working at heights or underwater.
The Solution
Indianic has key personnel highly experienced and familiar with the functionality of the navigation aids. Our team use comprehensive inspection procedures to assure all navigation aids are thoroughly inspected with maintenance requirements clearly identified. Indianic’s key personnel maintain high risk licenses to conduct the maintenance including diving to AS 2299, working at heights with beacon rescue training, crane operations with rigging and dogging – to name a few.
Indianic has a variety of custom support vessels, certified equipment and procedures that enable us to perform the maintenance to the 3 types of navigation aids. This maintenance is conducted in house: engineering, procurement, and execution.
At our Sparks Road facility in Henderson, Indianic maintains critical spares and has an engineering workshop. This enables us to provide immediate solutions and attend to the navigation aids should a call out arise, such as an electrical failure or damage to an asset.
